Ah, the theremin. Once, at a party, I was able to answer someone's question re: what's the weird instrument that makes those spooky music sounds? You mean, the theremin, I replied. My new boyfriend was so impressed he eventually married me. No, really.

Tom Waits owns the original!? Yet another reason to be a Tom Waits fan.

Looked it up and could not find anything about him owning it. Who knows for sure that would be cool if he has it. He does talk a bit about the Theremin here http://www.tomwaitslibrary.com/otherinstruments.html
I was able to find some decent phone apps that plays Theremin sounds if you do a search in your market under theremin. Its not the same but fun to play.
