The Dunwich Horror (1970)

The Ides of March, 1937, marks the death of H.P. Lovecraft, one of the most influential horror writers of our time. In remembrance, I've planned a series of Lovecraftian selections between now and march 15th. First up is, the Dunwich Horror. A film loosely based on Lovecraft's short story of the same name.

Dean Stockwell, Sandra Dee, Ed Begely

What a brilliant idea! Looking forward to seeing the others. I was hoping one of us would eventually post this film. Just love this movie and Lovecraft's original story.

Brilliant! Love the theme, love the film, and really love the stills!

You've got such a good eye for this Miss Micha!

I just watched this film this last Halloween for the first time, and I loved it.

I too am looking forward to seeing your other posts...

yes, i love the whateley house in this film, especially the wallpaper + color pallet [loads of purple]. and despite his silly mustache, dean stockwell really steals the show for me.

i'm glad you like my lovecraft idea. i've been doing research for a couple weeks now. trying to find films that have strong lovecraftian ties + reflect the obscure hollow aesthetic.

... and thanks ladies, for all the sweet words.

This movie gave me nightmares that scared me so bad as a child (I was only 6 years old when I first saw it)- I woke up in the hospital because of a "minor" heart attack! It's the film that got me into "Lovecraft," and I watch it every year as a "Halloween tradition!"
