I think I read somewhere that Tom Waits owns the original Theremin now?

Ah, the theremin. Once, at a party, I was able to answer someone's question re: what's the weird instrument that makes those spooky music sounds? You mean, the theremin, I replied. My new boyfriend was so impressed he eventually married me. No, really.

Tom Waits owns the original!? Yet another reason to be a Tom Waits fan.

Looked it up and could not find anything about him owning it. Who knows for sure that would be cool if he has it. He does talk a bit about the Theremin here
I was able to find some decent phone apps that plays Theremin sounds if you do a search in your market under theremin. Its not the same but fun to play.

I have a book of collected interviews by Waits and he has a whole story about the Theramin, doing research on it and trying to find one to play on one of his records. He eventually tracked down Theramin's daughter and she gave him her father's original working model, I know he played it and I think she gave it to him.

I've just moved home so will try and find the book and check my facts ;o)
