me too.. It was one of my favs when I was a kid. I watch it every 5 years or so and this time I got the dvd with the special features and they show the creature at the end. I'm so glad they cut it out. It was cool though to see after all these years of watching it.. I blame this movie, the Changeling(1980) and Ghost Story for my love of films with haunted houses and ghosts in them... in a good way of course!

Thank you Red Nails!
I agree.. I'm so glad it was years later when i saw the alt ending. Would have ruined it if they kept it in.

This was one of my all time favourites as a kid as well.
We also just rented it this past Halloween and saw all the various endings that were cut. Too funny!
Was also thankful they didn't show a space alien, that would have killed the wonderful air of mystery, and overshadowed everything great about this film.
I remember how much my young brain was turned on by the sacred geometry and ghosts on the other side of the mirror in a parallel dimension. The best, and of course, Bette Davis is so funny in this film, like a stapler to the forehead amidst all the kitsch.
And the western wear that was popular for teens to wear at that time. My sister and I had the same shirts, lol. So sad, but we lived in the deep south, so par for the course, along with Farrah Fawcet hair!

I just watched this film two weeks ago. I loved it, except the ending was a little disappointing with the whole dimensional business. Great mood throughout the whole movie, as well as great visuals.

Very cool blog!
